
We are internationally accredited through the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS No. 1371) and are additionally US FDA listed enabling us to test to all International, European and US standards for CRCs.
Burford Research’s clients come from a wide activity range including packaging manufacturers and companies making pharmaceuticals, healthcare products and household cleaning products.
Burford Research was founded in 1967 as a completely independent and impartial test house and maintains this status. From the beginning, we specialised in packaging research per se and developed expertise in testing children on a multiplicity of products from toys to edibles.
We have been involved with Child Resistant Container development since 1973. In 1975, the British Standards Institution accredited Burford Research to test recloseable pharmaceutical Child Resistant Containers (BS 5321). Testing was extended to recloseable non-pharmaceutical products in 1985 and BRC was further accredited (BS 6652, which subsumed BS 5321).
In 1993, European Standards began to replace individual national standards. Burford Research extended its accreditation further and has continued to maintain up to date accreditation as these European Standards eventually all additionally became International (ISO) Standards.
Burford Research have been accredited by UKAS since June 1993 for Child Resistant Container testing and continue to maintain accreditation to the ISO 17025 Standard for Testing and Calibration Laboratories.
Managing Partner, Hugo Cawthorne, serves as a member of the UK and ISO/CEN Committees that write and periodically revise all of the ISO Standards relevant to Child Resistant Containers.
